    We are looking for a motivated individual to join the growing consultancy team as a Commercial Services Lead.

     

    The role is a senior position within the Company providing line management responsibilities. The successful applicant will already be acting in a commercial role, and be seeking additional financial, administrative, governance and line management experience. This role carries a 5% kpi bonus on top of any current remuneration you currently have. In addition to existing responsibilities the lead will be expected to provide sales and technical support, ensuring proactive engagement and communication to staff/sub-consultants and delivery of departmental objectives. It is the responsibility of the lead to ensure the Costain Way of service delivery is maintained and will act as a primary source of advice and technical knowhow to your team.

    What will I be doing?

    Key responsibilities will include:

      • Mentor, coach, guide, support and develop your staff, building morale and personal esteem and encouraging others to give their best performance
      • Provide expert technical support and guidance to team members where required or escalate if as required
      • Support the development of excellence in commercial services provision
      • Promote Costain culture and values
      • Support Head of Commercial Services to communicate downstream best practice and innovation and assist in the development of a consistent commercial approach across the company
      • Support the Company in meeting divisional and Group annual financial targets
      • Create a culture of continuous improvement
      • Identify and advise specific and general training requirements
      • Undertake (with support from of the Head of Commercial Services), Competence Assessments and Annual Performance Reviews
      • Assist Head of Commercial Services in the best allocation of Group commercial resources
      Act as a delegate to the Head of Commercial Services to ensure a departmental presence is available at all relevant management meetings

     



    About you

    Qualifications:

    • Will be nearing completion, or already hold, a RICS recognised degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Commercial Management.
    • Will be a student member of the RICS and be preparing to enrol onto the RICS APC via one of the recognised routes.

     

    Knowledge / Skills / Behaviours:

     

    • Will have at least 5 years’ experience in the construction industry working in a commercial role
    • Knowledge of NEC Contract
    • Has experience or appreciation of the risk management process for both schedule and cost and the use of Earned Value Management for construction projects
    • Experience of setting up and/or operating office management systems including filing systems and document control and distribution
    • Experience of drafting contractual correspondence on behalf of the Project Manager and preparation of payment certificates and interim financial reportsNegotiating and team-working skills and the ability to motivate and lead those on site
    • Aware of Accident, Incident and Near Miss Reporting and Investigation (COMPASS) and an appreciation of HS&E Management System and requirements
