    An East Sussex Highways Apprenticeship is a great way to start a career in the construction industry and provides the opportunity to develop your skills in Civil Engineering.


    The Street Lighting Team are responsible for the infrastructure replacement and improvements to street lighting and traffic signals across East Sussex.  The team provide specialist design input and are responsible for the operational delivery of multiple schemes. 


    All electricians will have a broad range of similar technical knowledge and practical skills to enable them to carry out their work safely and correctly.

    What will I be doing?

    • Install, maintain, and repair electrical services (e.g highway electrical support structures, equipment and systems)
    • Work outdoors mainly (as well as indoors occasionally) and be prepared to work at height
    • Work with their own initiative and in small teams (typically in 2’s)
    • Be prepared to travel within Sussex and work at times from Different Depots (Ringmer, Sidley or Heathfield)
    • Develop good working relationships with people

    About you

    You will need to:

    • Have the equivalent of 5 GCSEs, grades A*-C or 9-4, including Maths, Science and English
    • Either OR a Level 2 apprenticeship in a construction or property related discipline
    • Be organised and able to work well to deadlines
    • Have the ability to do many things and be able to choose what is the most important
    • Be interested in getting it right the first time
    • Be interested in the latest technology
    • Be able to work well within a team and equally on your own
    • Have excellent communication skills

    We will track your progress and performance for 3 years and during your apprenticeship you will get:

    • On-going support and reviews from L&D advisor and training provider
