The Costain Graduate Development Scheme is an intensive 2-year programme designed to equip high flying graduates with the skills and experience required to take them forward in their career with the company. We offer mentoring and support in every area of work, as well as a structured training programme to enable graduates to work towards achieving a professional procurement qualification.  Graduates will have the opportunity work on a number of projects around the UK during the 2-year programme.

What will I be doing?

As a procurement graduate you will develop your technical, leadership, and management through working in a number of different areas:

  • Subcontract procurement on a live site
  • Materials and plant procurement on a live site
  • Understanding the overall procurement process; procurement strategy, procurement schedule, client liaison, reporting, writing recommendations and governance.
  • Involvement on live tenders, adding value into the supply chain strategy to improve our chance of success
  • Supply Chain Management


The elements of good procurement that successful candidates will need to master will include.

About you

Your experience will support your progress in professional qualifications, and you should aim to have passed an NVQ Level 4 in Supply Chain Management by the end of the programme, this will lead to achieving Membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.


Person Specification

  • Minimum 2:1 achieved or expected in a degree, a construction related course is desirable but not essential.
  • Work experience relevant to construction or procurement.
  • Mobility to work on various projects over the 2-year programme throughout the UK
