Data is being generated in increasing volumes at all stages of life of complex assets, supporting design, build, operations and maintenance. Costain’s customers need to increase capacity, increase resilience and enhance customer experience associated with complex assets and it is critical for us to be able to leverage data and the opportunities presented by artificial intelligence and related technologies to support these aims.
This role is to combine statistics, mathematics, programming, problem-solving, and capturing and use of data in ingenious yet customer-friendly ways.
The Senior Data Analyst will have the ability to look at data differently to find patterns, along with the activities of cleansing, preparing, and aligning the data to support the client outcome requirements.
You will be required to deal with unstructured and structured data, carry out data cleansing, preparation, and analysis with the aim to extract insights and information from data. AI techniques and technologies should be applied to leverage the data, in combination with existing systems, to generate insight, optimise the performance of critical assets and unlock opportunities to optimise maintenance activities.
The role will also be responsible for developing and enhancing Costain’s methodology and approaches in this domain, interacting with Business Development leads and Customers to shape approaches and solutions.
There is potential for the role to be deployed into a customer environment as part of a Costain team to support their use of analytics.
As such, consultancy skills and ability to shape and influence will be important.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Skills and qualifications needed
Knowledge of and experience with Machine Learning platforms such as Microsoft Azure
Master’s Degree or PhD in data analytics or related discipline
In-depth knowledge of SAS and/or R
Knowledge of and experience with Python coding, Java, Perl, C/C++.
Knowledge of the Hadoop platform, with experience in Hive or Pig being beneficial
Knowledge of and experience with SQL database/coding: Though NoSQL and Hadoop are the major focus for data scientists, preferred candidates can write and execute complex queries in SQL.
The ability to work with unstructured data: It is extremely important that a Data Scientist is able to work with unstructured data—whether from social media, video feeds, audio, or other sources.
