The Costain Graduate Development Scheme is an intensive 2-year programme designed to equip high flying graduates with the skills and experience required to take them forward in their career with the company. We expect graduates to rotate after 12 months to another sector of the business. We offer mentoring and support in every area of work, as well as a structured training programme. Graduates will work on a number of projects around the UK during the 2-year programme, in sectors including nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports and tunnels.

What will I be doing?

The Engineer will need to be able to create 3D models from construction plans & sketches and working on live construction projects to generate models and related content at various stages of construction and have an active interest in the Internet of Things, Big-Data and Future Cities. This will include undertaking the following tasks:

  • Working closely with integrated project teams to ensure 3D models are generated at various project stages.
  • Working with planners to generate 4D construction sequences and with the commercial team to add cost information, base lining the programme and creating ‘what if’ scenarios
  • Using the model to lead Value Engineering workshops at tender stage, and design reviews on live projects
  • Liaising with the temporary works team to integrate temporary works
  • Liaising with subcontractors to source and incorporate supply chain models
  • Undertaking clash detection on the model
  • Creating logistics models for optimisation of site layouts and haulage routes
  • Adding data attributes to the model where appropriate
  • Developing internal capability, including supporting GIS and Laser Scanning

About you

  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • A sound knowledge of engineering principles and design processes
  • Conversant with the principles and constituents of BIM
  • Mobility to work on various projects over the 2-year programme throughout the UK

Final Statement

Assessment centres will take place in November/December 2017 at our Head Office in Maidenhead, SL6 4UB.
